Week Three New Zealand: Opoutere & Whangamata
September 12-17, 2005
Opoutere
We arrived at the youth hostel in the morning, and discovered a plethora of toys--stilts, a trampoline, kayaks galore, mini tetherball...you name it.
The youth hostel sat right on the edge of Wharekawa Harbour, around which our schoolwork for the week centered.
We walked through the mud to investigate the intertidal conditions and vegetation.
On Friday, our last morning there, we walked up to the top of the hill next to the youth hostel to see the sunrise.
Whangamata
The sunset was beautiful, although clouds and wind overshadowed the rest of the evening.
One of the guys was a sport (or just drunk) and easily convinced to put on a skirt and start dancing.
