This weekend I took Hannah up to my favorite place, Tennant Lake...but when we got there, we found that the water was a little too high for the boardwalk, so it was about an inch or two underwater! We decided to walk around it anyway--I felt bad for Hannah because I was wearing waterproof boots and she was just wearing sneakers. Then we wandered around by the Nooksack and up to a farm not particularly far away, where we admired the long-eared lops and interesting-beaked birds.

On Sunday, my friend Jeff from middle school came up to visit (he goes to school in Seattle) for the afternoon--we wandered around Fairhaven, downtown Bellingham, checked out the Sehome Arboretum tower, and got greasy delicious chinese food at Happy Panda or something.

Today we practiced throws in jujitsu, and I am developing a really gnarly looking bruise on my bicep. I'll post a picture later if it's not too grotesque. Man, I never thought I bruised easily, but apparently... Also, I thought I had upper body strength, but I had a hell of a time doing the throws, even with a guy who weighs 10-15 pounds less than I do.

Yesterday morning I woke up clutching 2 of my 3 alarm clocks like a royal mummy holds the flail and crook. Today I slept through 4 alarms. Actually, I woke up for one of them and reset it half an hour later, but slept through that one. Fortunately I didn't have to be anywhere.

Ryan and I went for a hike at Stimpson since neither of us had been there for a long time--they had even built a new trail leading around this lake that shouldn't have been there with lots of weird cement things by the side. It looked like there was a tree chained to a post in the middle of the lake, but we realized the tree had just floated into it. I swear some boy scout troup has adopted the nature reserve and claimed it as their eagle scout reserve project--every bridge is for a different eagle scout's project.

This morning I had my eyes checked and spent an hour picking out glasses, after some confusion and consternation about insurance. I wanted to get those retro square black frames, but the closest ones I found to what I envisioned looked really bad on, so I wound up going with some glasses that kind of remind me of John Lennon e.g. they're pretty round. I'm the most indecisive person in the world, as most of you know, so I spent 20 minutes hemming and hawing between that pair and a pair that was pretty similar to all the glasses I've had, but finally I decided that I wanted something different. Hopefully I won't hate them when I see them again.

Then I went to the library and did some homework, went to Win's drive in ("don't be a loser, eat at Win's") where they make a damn good strawberry shake and excellent fries, then grocery shopped and walked home. I've been wondering why my shoulder's been hurting this afternoon...but I felt good about walking.

I visited Sally in Walla Walla this weekend. We went snowshoeing on Saturday and failed at going wine tasting. A fun visit.

Ok I'm lame, I missed Darwin's birthday.

According to a huge report published yesterday, global warming is "unequivocal" and there's a 90% likelihood it was caused by humans. Finally!

"[Bush] administration officials asserted Friday that the United States had played a leading role in studying and combating climate change, in part by an investment of an average of almost $5 billion a year for the past six years in research and tax incentives for new technologies." How can they say this, and how can anyone believe them!?!

I called my mom this morning for a scone recipe, and she said, "The recipe for the scones I made this morning?!" All I can say is, great minds think alike.

I went on a girl date with my friend Dani and we got clothes at the thrift store and painted pre-made pottery. I'm painting a monster menagerie on a cookie jar.
