Today was a record 12 degrees Fahrenheit. Brrr!

So, I landed in Seattle and listened to my voicemail: Bellingham got 15 inches of snow! Aimee was stranded in Seattle, so I drove up and got her, and we decided to take a stab at getting to Bellingham, although TV stations had apparently been reporting all day that it was impossible and it was 1:45 AM.

We put the chains on around 2:30, but one of the chains was broken in 2 spots, so I had to figure out how to fix it. Drove for a ways, a van without chains spun out and wound up facing the wrong way. On I-5. Not a good situation for them, thankfully though the trucks didn't come out for another hour or so.

Then the chains broke again. We still had one repair link, so I pulled over and fixed it.

Fifteen minutes later, the chain broke again! I decided tie wraps would work fine.

Fifteen minutes later, the chain started making a funny noise and I told Aimee, "They're coming off!" although she protested since we both knew there'd be snow on the Chuckanuts, another 15 or 30 minutes ahead and it had taken an hour to put the chains on the first time. To heighten morale, we stopped for breakfast at 4:45--my hash browns and eggs were fucking delicious. We took off the chains.

At last, after 20 more harrowing miles, we arrived in Bellingham without having to put on the chains. The last mile home was the roughest part of the journey, and we should have put on chains, but didn't. I only spun out once... We finally parked at 6:15 AM. Boy howdy!

It's incredible what a little photoshop will do to urban sprawl:

Yay, I can speak again!

Bleh, I have a cold, and I have mostly lost my voice in the past couple hours. This sucks. All I've done today is watch a movie, draw some crappy drawing, and lay in my bed shivering and trying to sleep. Despite my voice, I am feeling better now than when I woke up this morning. Thank you sudafed!

Wednesday evening, I exulted to my chem lab partner that finally I didn't have an assignment due the next day! When I got home, I realized I did.

But I don't have one due tomorrow! So I decided a little leisure drawing was in order. Lately I've mostly been drawing in Illustrator, trying to get ok at it. Drawing even the simplest things still takes longer than it should!

It's been rather wet lately. There was flooding on Monday. Fortunately our apartment was fine.

I finally finished making labels for my spice jars last night while I was watching Sin City, the first movie I've had time to watch since school started. I'm not positive that the spice I called coriander really is coriander, but I seem to recall that's what I got. I guess I'll see when I start cooking...

This picture's from last month, but I wanted to share my shock and horror--Yes, this is an airport, and yes, those are slot machines in the airport. Given, it was Las Vegas, but still...

I helped plant trees for salmon the other day. Go me!

I've had complaints that I have been negligent about posting a photo of CJ:

Last night, after eating cheap American food and consoling a just-laid-off barista we didn't know with a drawing of snails, Dani, Emo and I went to the Environmental Science building and got free rocks from the box called "Free Rocks". We thought a lot of rocks were cool, but it turned out it was just mud on them that made them look cool.

I got home at 2ish, but wasn't tired, so I colored for probably another 2 hours. This looks a little funny because I accidentally took the picture at an angle so I had to straighten it on the computer. It's the drawing of Satan and Persephone I've been working on forever. (For people who don't know the myth: Persephone on wikipedia.) Eventually I'll color it on the computer so it's cleaner.

I'm filling out my ballot right now, and it seems that, despite making sure I read about candidate's positions and history, I'm voting the party line. No, not Democrat. Green. It's so frustrating to believe that a certain candidate is best for the job, but to know absolutely that they will not win. American democracy is a lie; sure, we all get a vote, but no one's particularly educated about issues or candidates, people vote from fear or party loyalty rather than their conscience and logic, and the system is winner-take-all, not representative of more than the plurality's wishes.
