Despite setting 2 alarms, I only woke up at 8:50 yesterday, which was 10 minutes before my birding test, and it takes 20 minutes to walk to school. I threw on the first clothes at hand, which fortunately included my geek pants and boots, then walked as fast as I could to campus after calling my friend and telling her to stall the teacher (we were driving somewhere). During the non-field portion of the test, when we listened to birds on CDs, I identified about half--the field portion, when we stood in the forest and wrote down all the birds we heard for five minutes, did not go as well.
I just studied for my wildlife class for 5 hours. Even normally, that would be a lot, but it's extra extra a lot when studying means listening to recordings of birds and trying to figure out ways to remember which are which.
Monday night, I watched Born into Brothels with my roommate Anika. It was really good, but unfortunately there was some difficulty with the subtitles (read: there were no subtitles) and everything was in Bangla. Fortunately, Anika is from Bangladesh, although the movie was in a different dialect, so she gave me some rough translations of what was going on. I thought it would be a really sad depressing movie, but it turned out happy and inspirational. See it!
For any budding graphic artists, I saw this ongoing t-shirt design thingy:

On Friday I drove down to Olympia with my friend Emo and my new friend Dani to go see a Jason Webley concert. We got stuck in traffic so it took longer than expected, but we made it to the concert in time, and it was awesome. Then we went to a party for about half an hour where people were jumping into the water because there was some bioluminescent algae, but we abstained. Not quite
that warm. Then we went to white supremecist Denny's for french fries because it was late but we were hungry.
We slept in until 1 on Saturday, then made french toast in a waffle iron and baked cookies before running to the Beading Mecca of the world, where we spent an hour doing a peripheral search and I still managed to spend more than I intended. After much deliberation, we managed to obcure a take-and-bake pizza for dinner. We were staying at Emo's boyfriend's place, and because he has his own cabin thing back in the woods we had our own mini party with the four of us and one of his friends. Today we pretty much got up and came back, though we did stop for bagels somewhere and it took them 20 minutes to get me a toasted bagel with cream cheese because they forgot about me.
I got the writing center job, so next year I will be the Writing Center publicity coordinator! I'm pretty excited. I played a one-line role in our promotional video for next year--I had to wear a pink wig like Marge Simpson's hair.
It's been about 75-80 here the past couple days--I am going to die when I get home to broiling Marin!
Sweet Jesus, the jazz I'm listening to now has a kazoo player playing lead.
My mom came up for the weekend to see me give my senior project yesterday--5 people came, whee. Over the weekend, we went looking for salamander egg masses, the new subject of my project, and struck out. This does not bode well.
We also saw Thanks for Smoking, which was extremely entertaining--I recommend it!
Rarr, there were some anti-abortion protestors at school today who were calling abortion genocide, and they put me in a really foul mood all day. Water quality lab didn't help, neither did realizing how much work I need to do. So even though I have a ton to do, I think my mental sanity/frustration level requires some fixing that hopefully a little Pirates of the Caribbean will provide.
On a side note, I borrowed an Alice Cooper greatest hits CD from the library and it turned out to be a 4-disc set! omg, who needs that much Alice Cooper?!
Apparently my bosses are duking it out over whether I or the other applicant gets the higher-level Writing Center job next year.
