Lab today was living hell. Well, I guess not that bad. But anyway.

I woke up at 7 and skipped breakfast to run down to the bookstore to buy the specific notebook the teacher wanted, but the bookstore doesn't open until 8 so I waited outside with another girl in a different chem class who needed goggles for her lab. We ran in at 8, bought our things, and ran to the chem building. I was 10 minutes late for class, but the teacher didn't say anything thankfully.

Because I didn't have my lab manual last night, I typed my procedure. That wouldn't do. I had to recopy it into my notebook instead of gluing it in. Then we did the 1st lab and it was ok, but the second lab I managed to spill my measured sample so I had to start over, and then I got a horrible margin of error, so I redid it again.

Last night I finally got in touch with Katie and Joe, and went over to their place to pick up my stuff. I arrived about 9 but didn't leave until 11:45, so I had to start my lab prep when I got home at 12. But it was fun to see them.

I wasted about half the beautiful sunny day asleep. In the afternoon I went to Lake Padden to sit in the sunlight and read biology. Then I came back for dinner. I sat with some annoying kid who I met last night playing cards and he was annoying again. Then another kid I met last night came up and looked at me and said, "I've been looking for you everywhere!" But he didn't mean me, he meant someone else and was super-embarrassed because he got the wrong person. I went to Cody's to chat but wound up watching Kill Bill instead.

I just got back from two failed attempts at shooting the moon (one where everyone thought I had it then the only other guy who had gotten cards had one heart), 15 minutes of Scattergories, and an hour and a half of "Celebrity Charades."

Before that, I got out my saxophone to practice, played a few scales and long tones, and a girl burst excitedly into my room shouting, "You play saxophone!" She told me she played clarinet, so I got out my clarinet too. We started warming up on clarinet and another guy burst in crying, "I play clarinet too!" So he got out his clarinet too, and he and I doubled up on the second part while the other girl played first. I haven't played a duet in over a year, and it was totally fun. Maybe we can find music for 3 clarinets.

Mom and Dad left today after we got breakfast, drove along Lake Whatcom, ate doughnuts, hung out reading and playing frisbee at a park, and went for a brief stoll. I've decided to drop Latin and take Chemistry instead. We'll see Monday when I have to get up at 7 whether that's a good move or not.

Last night I went to "Late Night at the VU" around 10:15. There, I listened to a few decent bands, tried to find henna tattoos, looked at posters, read some National Geographic Adventure magazine (my favorite magazine), and wandered aimlessly until midnight, when Zoolander played. It was just vaguely interesting enough to make me stay--unfortunately, someone pulled the fire alarm about 15 minutes before the end of the movie, so I came home.

I am now moved into my new dorm room in Fairhaven. I haven't met anyone in Fairhaven yet but I've hung out a lot with the parental units since it's the last chance I'll get to see them for the next 3 months. Today around noon they headed for the mountains when I headed for my first class.

We drove up in increments, stopping in Redding to visit the supercool Sundial Bridge, then cruising through terminally green but rainy Oregon, spent a day with relatives in Washington, then cruised up to Bellingham and unloaded some crap, and finally, passports in hand, drove to the border. Where we stopped. And waited. I suppose forty-five minutes isn't too long, but still. Made it through no problemo, met up with Tristan, and scarfed cajun food. Dad tried the gator. It was rubbery. Then we unloaded the vibes. We crashed at the lovely Bosman's Inn about 12:30 in the morning--ahead of us in line was a hooker and her client. If she wasn't a hooker then she needed to seriously reassess her wardrobe.

The next day we wandered around Vancouver, which tired out our feet, but we regrouped after delicious sushi at "Ultimate Sushi" enough to go rent bikes and bike around the big park in downtown Vancouver. In the evening, after consuming Greek food at a restaurant that served enough food to satisfy even my little vacuum-cleaner dog, we found Tristan and got dessert, which we ate on a little beach. The next day we cruised down to Bellingham (without having to lie at the border and say we didn't buy anything!) and set up my room.

Tonight was capture the flag, and tons of new people came! Only 5 of our original crew showed, but a bunch of people came and we recruited several passers-by. And tonight I got a shower because the shower wasn't really broken, I just was going about turning it on the wrong way.

Yesterday I accomplished nothing. Today is my last day in California for the next four months. Last night Brian and I went to the dorms and said hi to Andy and Faith, then went to IHOP and planned for the Ultimate Summer Adventure (for next year). It's gonna be fun!

Ten Best People Photos of Kaeldra's Summer 2004

Today I went to San Francisco with Mom and Danielle. We hung out with my uncle for a while, stopping by but not entering the SF Conservatory of Flowers and the deYoung, which looks like it will be cool when it opens. Then we had a picnic lunch on the street outside his jewelry shop, and finally headed to the "Courtly Art of the Maya" exhibit at the Legion of Honor.

Exchanged my CD player today for one that does not: skip randomly on burned cds, make an annoying "boopy-boopy" noise when I turn it off, scroll funky colors ad nauseum, beep whenever I hit a button, or need the face to pull off before you can put in the cd. However, it is incapable of playing from my mp3 player. Alas. It took us an hour to pick it out. Then, since we got 60 bucks back, we cruised over to Ross to blow it, and now I'm going to be the best-dressed girl in Bellingham. (OK, so we spent a little more than the 60 we got back.)

Today, after gorging on pancakes, Mom and I prepared to go to Cost Plus but were waylaid by our friend Steve who came over and told us weird stories for an hour and a half. Finally we went to Cost Plus and hunted for posters, found none but did run in to Julia Heitner, Jenny Boynton, and, later, Brian Meyer, who pole vaulted with me one year. My dad kicked my but at gin tonight, but I didn't care because my mom made strawberry shortcake.

I hate feeling like I know what I want to do but not feeling like doing it. That sounds stupid, doesn't it? Right now, I want to write, and I know exactly what to write, but I can't seem to put the words to paper (blogging does not count as writing. ) But anyway, I shall try anew.

Today, I woke up at glorious 10:30, called Danielle, and my mom, Danielle and I all drove down to San Jose-land to visit the Rosicrucian Museum. Who are the Rosicrucians anyway? Hit up a European bakery for sandwiches on croissants (yummy). But aside from that, the Rosicrucian's signage was very poor and the lights were too dim and the floor squeeked. And the planetarium was closed (we did get in free to compensate for that.) But some woman did tell us more than we ever wanted to know about Egyptian makeup.

Then tonight, Robin's friends swarmed the house en masse and we walked up to the San Rafael ridge to play Capture the Flag. Played two games, then one kid I didn't know but who was nice needed to go home so I accompanied him back. It's a good thing I did otherwise he would have ended up in the cemetary. Probably not where you want to be at 9:30 at night by yourself. Then they all swarmed back over, were very loud, and at last left. Now it's dark, quiet, and I am all alone.

Today was my final day at Muir Woods. Now I have a week of summer left to enjoy without the hindrance of duty. After I finished work today, my coworkers and I gathered to play board games. It was only 6 of us, then one woman left, so five of us enjoyed a thrilling evening of Trivial Pursuit. I knew the answers to about 15 questions all night long (including answers to other people's questions.) By the end, we were so fed up with the game that any answer you got right earned you a tile, then if anyone got the answer right, it earned you a tile, and finally, stopped rolling the dice and just moved people to the squares they needed. I did pretty well without the anyone getting the answer until I got to sports, then proceeded to stall for about 10 turns. Trivial Pursuit somehow lasts as long as Monotony...oh, I mean Monopoly. (My boss had National Parks Monopoly but we didn't get a chance to play that--oh darn.)

Yesterday a mountain lion was spotted at bridge one (read: in the middle of all the crowds in Muir Woods), a small fire burned in a garbage can, and a bat was stuck to a piece of flypaper in the women's bathroom. Fortunately, it tested negative for rabies (they were concerned that somehow its bodily fluids got on me and anyone who went into the bathroom to look at it because it could have dripped on us). The Humane Society came to "rescue" it, but their policy is to euthanize all bats found because rabies tests require the animal to be dead.

Last night, Brian, Robin and I made an excursion to the city to see some photo exhibit at MOMA. We made it there around 8:30, which meant that we got in free, but also that we could only stay in the exhibits for 15 minutes. Alas. So we wandered around, then drove in circles around a block of the city near the Legion of Honor looking for a parking spot because Brian and Robin wanted Thai food, ate on a pullout off of Highway 1 overlooking the city, drank 3 different flavors of milkshakes from In-N-Out, and drove around Tiburon. Much excitement, much fatigued driving, much mocking me.

Went up to Occidental where my grandparents live for yesterday and some of today. I have only THREE DAYS LEFT of work. I have to self-evaluate myself at some point.
Hmm, and of course, quizzes are always fun.

Quizzes - Better Personality

Wackiness: 50/100
Rationality: 72/100
Constructiveness: 50/100
Leadership: 58/100

"You are a SRDL--Sober Rational Destructive Leader. This makes you a Mob Boss.

You are the ultimate alpha person and even your friends give you your space. You can't stand whiners, weaklings, schlemiels or schlemozzles. You don't make many jokes, but when you do, others laugh out loud. They must.

People often turn to you for advice, and wisely. You are calm in a crisis, cautious in a tempest, and attuned to even the finest details. Yours is the profile of a smart head for business and a dangerous enemy.

You have a natural knack for fashion and occupy a suit like a matinee idol. Your charisma is striking and without artifice. You are generous, thoughtful, and appreciate life's finer things.

Please don't kick my ass.

Of the 17164 people who have taken this quiz since tracking began (8/17/2004), 3.3 % are this type. "
