I managed to sleep through my alarm and through breakfast/lunch this morning, and then I was so distracted cleaning I didn't eat until 5:30. But now I'm partially packed, which is good. I don't know how I'm going to fit everything in the one box I have left. It'll be fun to carry all my junk over to Fairhaven. I'm guessing minimum five trips. Five painful trips. I hate taking more than one trip.

Today I caught a shuttle down to Fairhaven to see the festival "It All Ends in Fairhaven" for Ski-to-Sea, a relay race involving kayaking, biking, running, downhill and crosscountry skiing, and canoing from Mt. Baker to Bellingham Bay. I didn't know where the kayakers were landing, so I looked at the festival and heard some live music, but I only had a dollar on me (I doubt anyone would have taken my check card) so I couldn't even buy the ice cream and curly fries I wanted. After catching the shuttle bus back, I walked up the muddy path behind the rec center on my way to my room, but got distracted by some swaying pink and white foxgloves and huge bumblebees that wouldn't stay put.

Damn it, they made me turn down my music. There is no one else in my hallway, why does it matter?

Haha, I'm lame, I'm studying.

Today I had fun dissecting an orange.

And look! the Impervious Creature is patriotic for the weekend.

I looked outside and it was nice and sunny, so I figured when I was done reading my email I would go outside. Now I'm done with the internet but it's cloudy and looks like it'll rain soon. I need to learn that when it's nice out, go out right then!

the exculpatory: i'm feeling Sveltron-esque right now...
the exculpatory: wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

haha, awesome, I thought, "I want to hear some ZZ Top" and I turned on the radio and ZZ Top is playing

Literary analysis and me do not mix.

A bike almost ran me down this morning.

Everyone is gone. Cody won't get back until Tuesday night. It's already quiet.

Ok damn, I don't need to take my econ final but such is life. I'll take it anyway just to kind of feel like I needed to stay for it.

Becotopia: what do you think wheelchair people do in the event of an emergency? take the elevator anyway?
acanthous: pick up a bit of speed, break through the large windows at the end of any given hallway and deploy the emergency parachute

I just learned how to play a Chinese "card" (tile) game, but it was rather confusing. I'll probably never play again but oh well.

Yesterday my RA made ice cream, so I parked myself in the lounge and scarfed and everyone thought I helped make it because I knew what all the flavors were.

I have officially killed the plant on my windowsill. I did water it yesterday and the day before. But I guess it's the dry spell of a month before that that did it in...

Also yesterday I explored Sehome Hill some more. I like taking the trails that are just big enough to be sure they're trails but so skinny you know barely anyone's taken them. I found a huge tunnel on the hill. Of course, that was on the road part. I walked over the tunnel and found some lovely rose-colored flowers. I have so many flower pictures. About three are actually pretty. Hehe.

I went to see Troy. Aside from getting the story all wrong, it was a very good movie.

Excitement of the day: finally buying myself some fleece pants.

Hooray for Cake Wars! Yay Brian.

Today I interviewed with the writing center. They made me pretend to work there; a woman read "her essay" out loud, and then I had to critique it. That wasn't the hard part--after that I had to critique my critique.

Finished my India essay half an hour before class today--the longest I have ever procrastinated. But now it's done, and not half bad I think. We'll see what Wolfman thinks though.

Stupid woman at the grocery store charged me twice for my one carton of milk! Thought it seemed expensive for one carton of milk and some shampoo...oh well what can you do? Not go to the incompetent woman--how can you mess up when there are only 2 items? She scanned it three times apparently, and removed one of them.

Goddamn school network is freaking out so I can't finish my chem homework. Damn it! It's due tomorrow morning at 9, and I have a class at 8.

BryanBoyGenius: well i went to jennas and then taught karate and then had family friends over and now yeah, picturing boaz playing austin powers
BryanBoyGenius: but other than that
BryanBoyGenius: nothing
Becotopia: sounds like you did a fair amount
BryanBoyGenius: relative to my other days, it was jack squat- i was actually home today for more than 3 hours- dissapointing

Damn, I'm happy if I leave the room for more than 3 hours.

Hmmm, for some strange reason, I appear not to have bought the Aeneid. Wonder why?

Last night I went to Cody's long-touted Luau, which served good food and was fairly entertaining. The costumes were nicely done. They tried to make it very authentic by having a Hawaiian storyteller, but she was extremely dull and sounded like she was reading from a printout. I did the "Pineapple Relay", where you pass a pineapple over your head or under your legs, then when it gets to the back the first person runs to the front, puts on hula clothes, and says "humuhumunukunukuapua'a" five times before passing the pineapple again. I thought the shirt was a skirt and the Hawaiians laughed at me.

After the luau I changed and ran over to ctf, 2 hours late. They had just agreed to let some random people use the field for tackle capture the flag, so we all went and played fugitive and freeze tag. Then we played a little bit of ctf, but it started to rain so we headed for the house where a bunch of the guys live together. There we had a nice fire in the rain, but after an hour and a half it got too wet to stay outside anymore and we retreated to watch "The Family Guy" for half an hour. I don't think that show's so great, but then again I don't appreciate the Simpsons either because the drawing annoys me for both.

I walked down to the VU to get breakfast so I wouldn't have to have bbq, but they were closed so I was forced to. I perched on an empty space on the ring around the fountain, and the guy next to me started talking to me about how he was a math/art double major who graduated the year I was born and came up to check out the sculptures. Some girl came and gave us a flier about the "gravity and chaos club ball drop" so we went and watched them drop 2000 bouncy balls from the fourth floor of the building, and I attempted to film it but it's not very good. Then he wanted to show me his favorite sculpture, which was right there so I went and looked at it and thought it was ugly but didn't say anything, and then looked at a sculpture/swing in the art complex that was super cool--it looked like a boat and had a wind vane thing on top that was powered either by wind or by the double swings. It would be fun to build something like it, but it must have taken him the entire quarter since it was huge. Unfortunately he wasn't there to tell us about it.

I wandered down to the VU because there was some big thing going on, but then when I got there it was packed, so I sat down and waited in the hopes that someone would give up their Scattergories sheet, but then I ran into a girl from ctf who was running the board games and she hooked me up with a game of Mille Bournes. Didn't, however, have time to go on the giant slide--the line was huge and frisbee started at midnight.

This evening I was so bored (before all that) that I fell asleep for 45 minutes without really noticing.

Day, uh, four of Operation LetsseehowIwastemytime yielded: most time spent on aim, playing with photoshop, and writing.

Oh man, I was so bored I took a nap because I couldn't stand looking at the computer anymore since I had a headache.

Apparently my dining commons (not the other two on campus) is $1000 in debt and so to make up for some of their losses are going to serve "BBQ Night" once a week--sausages, hot dogs, and hamburgers. Since I don't like their sausages, and hot dogs are ultra processed who knows what the hecks in em, it looks like I'll be walking to the other dining halls to continue not eating ground beef...

Becotopia: Cody says you are evil and belong to slytherin
hermione MALFOY: yay
hermione MALFOY: *flashes voldemort shirt*

Day Two of Operation LetsseehowIspendmytime: most time spent on internet, in class, and talking to my mom.

Tuesday, May 11, 2004

I started Operation FindouthowIwastemytime today. I think I'll do one week's worth of tracking my actions. So far it looks like my predictions were correct--most time wasted on internet and photoshop.

Sigh. Read 130 pages of the wrong book. Should have checked my agenda before doing the reading...

I remembered the pine nuts!

blindcurious (2:34:07 AM): I'm play some video games right now
Becotopia (2:34:12 AM): whee
blindcurious (2:34:13 AM): I'm on "team drinking"

hermione MALFOY: omg I felt so white
hermione MALFOY: it was like 98% asian
hermione MALFOY: so this guy with a camera came over to talk to my friend and I for some racial diversity
hermione MALFOY: how sad is that?

I killed 2 hours in the library aimlessly leafing through magazines, agonizing over movies, and wandering upstairs and down hunting for science fiction books and finding none I wanted to read.

Cody spelled the word coolest, "cooleset". Please not English teacher!

Wow, scary times in India class today. The teacher asked us for a brief overview of a person's beliefs after we read one of their speeches, and I said he was for democracy. Then I was trapped in the glare of the wolfman until a guy across the room found a quote to support me.

Hehe, my R.A. was greatly distressed when she glanced in my room and saw me sprawled on the floor. I was laying on my fleecy rug contemplating the lecture I went to tonight about fat--the guy explained how historically being fat was for the higher class (which I already knew), but I was thinking about how, though fashionable body sizes are decreasing, other material goods are increasing in size, like the popularity of SUVs like the Hummer and larger houses than we've ever had in the past.

Went in for a half-hour lesson on the blues scale before class today, and my solo did sound decidedly better. Still needs practice though. But that's to be expected.

Last night my cardio kickboxing class was cancelled so I decided to run a mile on the indoor track. It was not so exciting, just took ten times round instead of 4 to get a mile.

Phone interview with Muir Woods tomorrow!

Since my econ class is 2 hours long, we took our test during the first hour and reviewed the answers during the second, having written down our answers on another sheet of paper so we could see what our grades would be. The guy next to me kept moaning, and after he saw I was doing well he hid his sheet and wrote the actual answers on a separate sheet of paper.

Also got my history test back, and on one of the essays I, like many others since the teacher said it was the biggest problem people had on the test, didn't read the prompt closely enough and thus did not compare the time periods during which the Odyssey and the Oresteia were written. Oops, I still got a B though.

On a separate note, why do I have such trouble with chopsticks? And, further, why do I still insist on using them when I can? ;D

Today Cody, her friend Nate and I went sailing. We got there and I was totally worried that I'd fail their sailing test, whatever it was, but it turned out they didn't care. "Ooh, finally someone who wants to go sailing!" cried the girl who helped us. Unfortunately they were out of Lasers but they had plenty of Alphas left, which I had never sailed before. Some guy showed me how to set up the boat (doing it all for me ;D) and then set us free to our own devices. Cody clambered in the boat but just got in the way so I booted her out until I had it all set up, but it was filling with water pretty quickly. Then Nate spotted the plug floating in the boat, so I shoved it back in and bailed out the foot space, then raised the sails (there was a jib too but we only played with it a little since it's hard for one person to work 2 lines and the tiller at once), and headed out. I couldn't get the wind to work right the direction Nate wanted to go, but I wanted to go the other way anyway and Cody was ambivalent, so we just sailed around a little, lost and found our wind multiple times (not all my fault--stupid wind was fluky), Nate tried steering and got us nowhere because he couldn't find the wind either, and then we went in. A fun adventure. I think I'll have to go again, and next time get a Laser.

Went to see "Mean Girls," which was amusing if completely predictable.
