Whidbey Island Field Trip

May 14, 2005

Ebey’s Landing

We started off at Ebey's Landing on Whidbey Island.

We were looking for evidence of prairies, but instead got some nice views and a little too much sun on our faces.

Padilla Bay

Low tide at Padilla Bay exposes 8000 acres of mud.

We wandered out on the mud hunting for traces of worms mixing the sediment.

We had to learn a special "mud walk" that my annoying teacher likened to the Michael Jackson moonwalk.

I estimate there were at least 20 of this invasive snail laying around on each square foot of mud. I kept getting them between my foot and my sandal.

My annoying teacher rambling about how that speck of mud he's pointing at is actually worm poop.
